TN: 1990 Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos St. Jacques, Jadot

A lovely wine that is showing surprisingly young.
Clean berry fruit with some iron and iodine.
I’ve had a few 1990s that are a bit overripe but not this wine.
It shows pleasurable ripe structure.
The finish is good but not great.
Still going strong after 21 years.

Thanks for the note Pat. I haven’t opened any of my better '90s yet, figuring that they would still be on the young side! Everything after and including 1988s seem to be much fresher and slower maturing than earlier vintages - an overall change in Burgundy winemaking it seems (mentioned by Coates some years back).

Yes, much better and they were both from the same lot.

Thanks for the note, Pat. I agree this is a lovely wine now, if it gets enough hours of aeration, but the best is clearly yet to come IMO. Cruising at age 21, and will still be cruising for another decade or two I predict.
