TN: 1990 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers

1990 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru (3/30/2013)
Not promising at first due to obvious signs of past seepage. Cork stained all the way to the top. However, when poured it looked youthful with only a little bricking on the edges. The nose smelled of meat jus, forest floor, mushrooms, and a bare hint of cedar spice. On the palate dark fruit, a little bit of savory salinity, but also plenty of tannins. Tannins are a bit harsh at first but after 2 hours, really mellows out and comes together nicely.

I’ve been waiting on my '90 Faiveleys, figuring they could use more time…

I got this from KL so I don’t know the storage conditions. I wouldn’t hesitate trying one with 2-3 hours of slow ox. The initial harshness vanishes and becomes quite nice with air.
