1989 Henri Bonneau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Marie Beurrier - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (3/14/2009)
Dinner at St. Jacques. Dark ruby, this wine definitely benefitted from being decanted upon seating as it improved over the entire course of dinner. Full bodied with great richness and a wonderful mix of garrigue and woodsmoke. The tannins, which start off a bit harsh and integrate quite nicely after 30 or so minutes in the decanter, mix quite well with the fruit and the very glyceral texture of the wine. A long satisfying finish and clearly a long life ahead of it. It was a real treat to have this and the '89 Chave in the same week. 50+14+14+9+9 = 96 (96 pts.)
