1986 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac (4/14/2017)
Bought on release and stored in excellent conditions. Decanted about 6 hours before service.
A huge Bordeaux that is still on the uphill towards maturity. Dark ruby with little color loss after 31 years. Sweet fruit but with tannins and acid that support the power of the wine. Lots of cassis, blackberries, with a typical Lynch-Bages nose of the farm.
I remember drinking this 15 years ago and thinking that there would be a battle between the fruit and tannins to see who would win, and being concerned that the tannins would outlast the fruit. That’s not showing to be the case based on these bottles. The fruit is clearly winning. Two decades of life left. (96 pts.)
