TN: 1986 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

  • 1986 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes (8/7/2011)
From a .375ml bottle. Medium gold in color. The flavors were amazing, burnt caramel with apricots with a touch of lanolin. The wine is showing a good bit of acidity that I’ve found evindent in this vintage, but it gives it more of a backbone than a flaw. There’s plenty of life left in this wine, even in these half bottles. Paired very well with the flan and sauteed plantains served for dessert. (90 pts.)

John,
Thanks for the note, I’m a fan of the '80s Lafaurie-Peyraguey (well the '83, '86, and '88). I think I’ve liked the other '86s I’ve had slightly better than you liked that bottle. Not necessarily great, but very good, semi-aged (and still affordable) Sauternes.

Cheers,
-Robert
