TN: 1983 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence

  • 1983 Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape (6/19/2009)
    at lunch at Jean Georges.
the last bottle of a 6 bottle lunch. With grilled beef tenderloin. Wow, this wine looked it’s age. slightly browning with a clear rim. Taste on the other was full of verve. Roasted meat, dark red fruit, leather and tea.
    truly delicious.

Wow, super cool, there can’t be many bottles of that wine left!

Yeah, definitely a rare bottle - thanks for the note. I’ve had the Reservee a few times (always excellent), but never the Laurence.

My rarest Pegau is a bottle of the 1981 (it was not labeled as such at the time as they used to sell off most of their wine)–so it was a late labeled and release from the later 80’s. Advertised as a leaker on WineBid, the bottle looks basically perfect. No idea if it will be any good. Have been waiting for the right time to try it, maybe alongside an 1981 Beaucastel and a 1981 Bonneau Celestins.

this wine had plenty of stuffing left. I would not be in a rush to use them up.
How old was Laurence in 1983…16?
