TN: 1982 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux

  • 1982 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (3/3/2016)
A 62.5-ml Coravin pour at 67 Pall Mall in London. Transparent brick color, a bit of sediment. Astonishingly complex nose of barbecue sauce, orange peel, menthol/Vicks VapoRub, Bloody Mary, smoke, and earth. I’ve come across many of these scents in other wines before, but never on the same glass. Tremendous concentration and density in the mouth for a wine with so little extraction. Old-wine viscosity and length. I would have liked this more 5-10 years ago–the fruit is all gone now, leaving this a bit too cerebral for my palate. But this is still a mesmerizing wine I will never forget. (94 pts.)

Thanks Dan,
I had this as well as other DRcs from 1982 incl. LT several times, and all 82s are fully mature(ok, never had RC 82), and in most cases were better several years ago.
However, well and cool stored bottles - especially LT, GE, Rb - can still be fine, but they will definitely not improve, maybe stay where they are for a few more years, if not slowly loose their fruit.
They can be a good experience, but I would never buy some more now for the current (absurd) going …

This sounds very nice!

1982 Burgundy is not a great year and as Gerhard says, there is not much to expect in a near future.

But it could become like some years like 1933 or 1935, become very agreeable in a long future.

A rule for Burgundy : they have never said their last word !
