TN: 1980 Carneros Creek Winery, Cabernet Sauvignon

1980 Carneros Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley. Another birth-year wine, and another winner from Carneros Creek Winery. Historically I’ve had more success with their zins (and the 1975 Petite Sirah!), but this cab was awesome! Red fruits, tobacco, and a distinct menthol/eucalyptus note that took things to the next level. Even my Mom dug it, and she does not drink much wine…especially red wine. Life is good!

Oh, I like a good birthday week. And going multiple rounds with beautiful 40-yr olds.

This was probably the first of Frank’s Cabs from TruchardVnyd. Up to then, his Cabs were from StelznerVnyd and Esola/AmadorVnyd. Frank was instrumental in persuading TonyTruchard to plant grapes there on the North edge of the Carneros, mostly Cab/Merlot/Pinot. The wonderful Roussanne came later. He simply sold grapes for a number of yrs afore Tony/Joanne started a Wnry.
