TN: 1979 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts

Much better than the '91 Rion Beauxmonts from last week, and more evidence that wine had a poor '91 vintage.

1979 Georges Noellat Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru (4/26/2013)
Brick orange and red color. Initial nose of deep sous bois that opens up to mature and soft red fruit. The palate is smooth and silky with medium-weight body, fully resolved tannin, and good acidity. The finish features spice and an awkward bitterness, without which the wine would merit a score a point or two higher. All in, a really nice, completely mature Burgundy. (92 pts.)
