TN: 1979 Chateau Beychevelle

Yesterday evening another bottle of 1979 Beychevelle to check my last impressions: and indeed another stunning example of mature Bordeaux. Healthy ruby colour with some garnet at the edge, medium bodied, mellow and ripe , at peak, but holding very well. Leadpencil & tobacco aromas combined with some cassis and cherry aromas. Perfect company for our roasted beef with a Bearnaise sauce. As good as the last bottle. Lower nineties rating. Bought after release and cellared since then. Second bottle from an owc opened a few weeks ago. Completely underrated by the board most loved critic at I think 74 points. If you can find perfectly stored bottles it might be tha deal of the year, but you have to love classic, mature Bordeaux. Even with a nineties rating it’s no blockbuster.

Great note. This 79 was always a great deal and under the radar.
Welcome.
