TN: 1971 Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Hors-Série

Showing beautifully. Complex aromatics of matchstick, Ligurian honey, peach, white mushroom and grilled nuts. There’s still a gentle prickle from the bubbles. The palate is superb, with orchard fruit flavours and so much tertiary complexity. It has a vegemite yeastiness to it and a finish that is supremely long and fresh.

really cool.

Worth tracking one down Alan. February 2021 disgorgement and a wonderful example of an extended lees contact Champagne.

When I was a freshman at Northwestern in 1977, a local liquor store had 375ml bottles for $2.00 each. We stocked up and enjoyed them.
