TN: 1969 Chateauneuf du Pape

1969 Duvigneau (Avignon) - Chateauneuf du Pape - Tete de Cuvée

Pristine brown glass bottle, my only bottle. Popped and poured. Excellent cork. Colour of deep burgundy red with a light red/terracotta rim. The nose gives me Bovril, oxtail soup and cold cooked beef with a smattering of wild Provençal herbs. Soft, sweet yet with fresh acidity and still a hint of tannin. Full bodied, drinking perfectly now for me without a hint of oxidation. It paired well with the pork chops (soaked in herbs and red wine for 24 hours) and lamb chops cooked on a charcoal BBQ.

Remarkable looking bottle. I’ve never heard of this producer? Are they still around, or were they a negociant of that era?

I have not seen any other bottles from them. Not sure if/when they stopped being a negotiant.

Happy Easter! Glad you had another oldie but goodie!

Thank you Nancy! It was a most tasty bottle.
