TN: 1967 Marcarini Barolo Brunate (Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo)

Oh my, This beauty is a testament to Barolo and the vintage. I have had so many great '67s, and this is one of the best. It started, like so many, just a little brown, but with a keen nose, the kind that makes you smile right away; You know what’s coming! The brown quickly turns dull red, nearly limpid, and later was clear as a bell, with a slight pink edge!, This wine is fully resolved, it has rose hints, with tar, and pretty, pretty red fruit, maybe a bit of spiced compote, but super subtle. There are also, subtle hints of wet clay and sweet earth perceptions. It’s perfect in the mouth, no rough edges, that only comes with age, maybe a forest floor thought, old but fresh. Wow what a wine. So glad I have one more! (99 pts.)

How did you prepare the bottle? I just took delivery of three Barolo from 1968 (my birth year).

Thanks Charlie. I have a couple of 67s tucked away given that it was the year that I entered the world.

Yeah, I love these old Macarini. I recently had a '78 of this same bottling that was totally in the zone. Everything you would want in aged Barolo.

Patrick, I generally stand for at least a week. And ease the cork with Durand. I did not decant. Just poured small pours from bottle. Worked perfect.
