TN: 1964 Meursault

1964 Berry Bros. & Rudd Ltd - Meursault

Sourced and bottled by the world famous London wine merchants Berry Bros and Rudd Ltd, based at 3 St James Street, SW1. This is, sadly, my last British racing green glass bottle of this wine that I purchased almost 10 years ago from a UK source. The bottle is in excellent condition, and I find the label such a piece of meaningful vinous artwork. Why can’t we have educational and artistic wine labels like this anymore?

The firm cork came out in one piece. The bright crystal clear yellow colour refracts the light excellently. The nose is just pure Meursault pleasure. Slate minerality, fine citrus and flint just ooze from the glass into my nose. I keep sniffing and keep smiling. The zingy palate is so youthful compared to its age. It’s almost like this 52 year old wine is reminding me that, once upon a time, it was an energetic 21 year old. Fresh lemon, very fine, delightful. If you have any bottles left in your cellar, drink them now and over the next 5 years. Almost astonishing, it paired perfectly with my poached sea bass.

That label is incredibly cool. Great stuff, as usual, Nicos.

THAT. IS. SO. COOL. Love that label!

I’ll toast you tomorrow from Burgundy mon ami.

Great colour.

Michel, have a super time in Burgundy, mon ami!

Thanks chaps!
