1959 Huët Vouvray Moelleux Clos du Bourg - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (12/20/2008)
Dinner at Duck & Dumpling for Dena’s birthday. Medium gold in the glass this was one of the most stunning bottles of Huet, or I should just say wine, that I’ve ever experienced. This is not an older bottle to be fascinated with for how it doesn’t taste as old as it is, it’s a complete wine that penetrates all of the senses and makes a special evening that much more memorable. My raw notes are much more words than sentences, even more so that usual, so here goes on some of the impressions I was able to capture. Honeysuckle, acacia honey, beeswax, lanolin, nectarines, apricots, dried fruits. Medium bodied with a long finish. Subdued sweetness and a tremendous balance in many regards - sweet vs sour, youthful fruit vs complexity of age. Will easily drink very, very well for another 25-50 years. What a masterpiece. 50+14+15+9.5+9.5 = 98 (98 pts.)
