2014 Moulin de Gassac rose “Guilhem” [Pays d’Herault] Served cool, over two nights. I didn’t care for it. Not much brightness, nor depth. 12% abv which is surprising given how watery it seemed to me. Very pale orange/pink color, sort of looks like what happens when you leave a wine glass on the counter and put a little water in it to help loosen sediment overnight. I think this is an organic wine, half grenache and carignane, which is bled off after a few hours with the grape skins. It tastes more like a wine byproduct (think whey to butter) than a real thing itself. It gets a C. The ‘oven fried’ shrimp I made to go with it, got a B+. We’re having a bit of an Indian summer locally, but rose season is over for us this year, as this was the last rose in the house.
Moulin de Gassac is the negociant brand from Mas du Daumas Gassac and bears as much resemblance to the real thing as I do to David Beckam when I’m wearing the underwear he promotes.
The '14 red and white Guilhem wines are absolutely delicious and for nine dollars a bottle, some of the greatest values this year that I have run into. Regardless of what underwear you are wearing.
Haven’t had the Rose though…
