TN: 11' Bedrock North coast Syrah

11’ Bedrock North coast Syrah: Opened around 3pm and am now getting around to tasting it… WOW…All this for $20?
Nose shows Smoke, violets, coffee, tar, metal, blue fruits, really intricate and really intense. The palate is intense with smoke, blue fruits, game, funk, great acid, great balance and length.

If this was put in a line up with Cayuse and Reynvaan (yes I know this is California but has the same ‘rocks’ funk) you might mistake this for either… At a third of the price!!!

Now you’ve gone and done it!!

Everyone was gaga over Morgan’s zins and now they’ll know how good his other varieties are.

Don’t say a word about his whites.

Already living with the regret of not buying any of this in my allocation. This note doesn’t help.

His single vineyard Syrahs with a little bit of time on them are also something pretty special.

I had to pass on my last allocation (which included the sticky) and while not completely kicking myself, I’m wondering if it is worth buying Bedrock over the likes of No Girls now…

I’m finding that Morgan’s wines really blossom with patience and are simply some of the most outstanding QPR’s in all of CA. Happy to have followed Bedrock from the start and thrilled to have a bunch sleeping in my cellar.

What was Bedrock’s 1st vintage? I’m sure there are notes on CT but I don’t have anything older than 08, and haven’t opened any of the higher end syrahs recently.

It might have been 2008. I looked back at my “Ode to Lulu” consumed and 2008 was my first year.

I have other 2008’s but nothing prior.

2007 and AFAIK it was a very limited vintage. The only Bedrock I’ve had from 2007 was the Lorenzo’s, which was really awesome but also very young when I opened it a couple years ago.

I’ve recently had a couple of the 2010 Hudson Syrahs, both T&S and Pleine de Chene, these were both approachable but young. I’d have no trouble opening any of the appellation syrahs, or the Old Lakevilles from '08 or '09. .

I buy it just because Morgan is such a nice and talented guy.

Oh, and his wines are exceptional and a true QPR.

Larry, Morgan did make a Lorenzo’s in 2007.

I hope so, since I just posted upthread that it’s the one '07 Bedrock I’ve had the pleasure of tasting neener

I know for sure he made Kick Ranch Syrah and Bedrock Vineyard Heirloom as well, but never had those.

Yup,Larry brought the’07 to our Old Vines Dinner at Pizzeria Rosso.

Close - I brought '08 to Rosso’s, '07 to Estate. Or maybe you don’t remember much of that night at Estate [drinkers.gif]

Quite correct. I failed to note the date of my tasting note and my most recent memory of You and Lorenzos was the OV Dinner.
