TN: 08' Tensley Colson canyon

TN: 08’ Tensley Colson canyon- Had this standing up so thought what the heck.

Starts of black with neon purple notes at the edge. The nose has just moved past the primary fruits and into cool crisp blueberry, vanilla and balance. The palate has great acid with blueberry fruit continuing on, it’s a little simple but has power and depth to last a couple of more years.

A hedonistic joy with great acid, sometimes you just want a piece of chocolate cake and that’s what this is (and that is meant with no disrespect).

Started selling them with the 2013, never saw them in Wa. prior, never really looked either. Definitely new world Syrah. I wonder why the vineyard produces fruit with better acid, vineyard/weather, picking decisions or a bit of both.

Hah, picked up a '13 Colson Canyon in Kirkland (Grape Choice), was that your handy work?

One of our reps, but yes, thru Young’s.

Love Grape Choice and rooting around there. Madison Cellars is another great place to explore.

Have tasted a handful from this bottling (often only Tensley I see in NY) back to the 2006, & the '13 is the best I’ve had. Am a big fan of the style & QPR of these wines. The '13 has a bit more bright, juicy freshness than any other vintage I’ve tasted.
Not sure of soil-types here, but wasn’t this a (so called) “drought vintage?” Hard to generalize, but wouldn’t normally necessarily expect such lively freshness & juiciness from a drought vintage.

2013 Tensley Colson Canyon Syrah (93+ Points) Pop-n-Pour. Deep magenta/Ruby color.
Juicy, pungent, smoky blue/black/wild-fruit jumping from the glass to start. Blueberry, blackberry, black-raspberry, licorice, lavender, creosote, wild-cherry, & wild-strawberry on nose & palate.
Stuffed with sappy, ripe, firm, rich fruit & extract. Great thick, fresh, bright texture from beginning to finish, with the ripe, sappy fruit carrying all the way through.
Firm, ripe, rich fruit & (mostly) oak tannins at finish buffered by fruit intensity, extract, & acidity.
Excellent intensity, length, acidity, & balance.
The intensity with sappy freshness are very impressive here.
Best Tensley I’ve tasted.
