2008 Kinkead Ridge Riesling (Ohio)
From one of the best wineries in Ohio. Green/silver in color, clear and bright. The nose has nice green apple notes. Medium bodied. Dry. On the palate, this is nice but on day 1, not too complex. I am told it was just delivered to my local store so there may be some bottle/travel shock. On day 2, it picked up the intensity a bit. Mostly fresh green apples with a hint of minerals. Nice finish. A nice wine, and at $12, a pretty good value. I look forward to trying the Rousanne which I have heard good things about. 50+3+12+16+7=88
2000 Fonatanbianco Barbaresco Sori Budin
Purple/ruby in color, lighter at the rim. The nose is nice but took some time to really open up. In fact, it was more classic on day 2. Cherries, tar and roses. Medium bodied. On the palate, this has a very tarry component. Cherries, fresh and dried. Nice acidity. The oak and alcohol are still noticeable, not overtly, but slightly out of whack. I doubt that age helps this so I would drink up. That said, it is nice now if maybe not worth the $40 I paid. 50+3+13+17+6=89
2005 Ridge Geyserville
From a 375. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose was pretty tight so we let it sit for a while and after a couple hours it opened. Briar, spice, black raspberries and plums. Full bodied. On the palate, there are black and red raspberries, dark cherries and some complexity. Not as exuberant as on release, this is entering another stage and it deserved some air to come together. A glass with a couple of ounces left on the counter was very good on day 2. At this point, I holding this for a bit. 50+4+13+17+7=91
