I figured I’d take one for the team, for those lucky enough to get in the Zachys sale before they were sold out. These bottles run me $7.50 each, all in (shipping included), and the QPR value is insane.

2006 L’Esprit de Chevalier - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (4/10/2009)
In the decanter, this wine immediately gives up a bunch of bright fruits - in the glass, however, it is much more muted, and some heat comes through. Lilacs, black fruits, and anise come through on the tail end, and I"m guessing more air time will settle the nose down a bit. The mouthfeel is actually quite nice, if just a bit on the thin side for Bordeaux - certainly more substantial than I anticipated given the price. Dark fruits, oak, and rocky terroir on the palate, but most impressive, particularly for the price, is the tannic structure and acidity. Good sized tannins, still green, but plump, fill your mouth, and some rather obvious acidity - both of which carry the rocky terroir and stone fruits through the finish, which is a good 20-30 seconds, and not at all bitter or hot. Incredible for the price, no question - my QPR of all time thus far. (91 pts.)
