TN: 01 Rudd Oakville, 06 Beringer PR Chard, 05 Carlisle Sonoma Syrah

01 Rudd Oakville
Took the cork out for a couple hours, than decanted and poured. Some dark brick red integrated in the purple color. Some currant and coffee on the nose. Rich, deep flavors of pure fruit, no hard edges, luscious, some currant on the finish. Little spice, little smoke, all seamless. Over the hour it took to drink it never changed or wavered once. Loved it, 94+pts.

06 Beringer PR Chardonnay
Yes, after the Rudd, dont ask. This is my favorite vintage of this wine. Creamy, some vanilla and oak, than a bunch of honeysuckle, light toast, hint of butterscotch and a finish that wouldn’t quit. 92+ pts

05 Carlisle Sonoma Syrah
Popped and poured, my wife wanted some more wine as the Rudd went fast… Surprisingly ready to go. PURPLE color, vibrant mix of New World fruit and some Northern Rhone bacon fat and meat in there.

Day 2
Saved 2/3 of the bottle. Northern Rhone has taken over. Those characteristics are now front and center. Really liked this development.

Day 3
Last 1/3. A shift back to California. Northern Rhone gone. Tastes like a California blend of Cab and Cab Franc with some density. Tannins drier and dustier but not unpleasant.

Interesting development on this wine. Liked it. 92 pts.

Thanks. Good news on the Rudd…I have two bottles left and haven’t checked in a couple of years.

I’m in exactly the same boat, so I’m glad to have this note. I might have to tee one up in 2011 or 2012.

I’ll keep my calendar free!
I have a few good 01s as well. maybe come Jan we can do a little 01 napa tasting?
