Tips using the Search function

Hi everyone,

I feel dumb for even asking this. But I’ve been struggling with it ever since joining WBers, so here it goes…

Can someone provide tips on how to use the Search function? For some reason, I have a hell of a time searching for what I want through old threads. Are there settings that I’m missing? I see old threads getting revived from time to time, so some of you must know how to use it effectively.

Also, is there a way to get around the waiting period between searches?

Thanks, and sorry if this question is really stupid.

Noah

I let Google do the work. Just type in “ site:wineberserkers.com”

For example: robert parker site:wineberserkers.com - Google Suche

I was counting to ten and only got to six before someone…

TBH, I use the search function and it’s not that bad. But, it seemed like someone had to post it.

I do the same. It’s amazing how often when I search the Google machine for a wine related matter WB is a top five or ten result. Since I realized that I started using Google to search the site.

Click the gear next to the box to get to additional options. Two of the most useful are the option to only search within titles, and to show results as entire threads (so a matching thread won’t be listed 100 times once for each post). There’s also an option to only search within certain forums - but with a limited number of distinct forums that will only help so much.

If you’re using Chrome you can make your own custom WB search. Here are the main instructions on how to get to Settings (How to add custom search engines in Chrome for more efficient searching | TechRepublic).

Here’s what you would put in the box:

Search Engine: Wineberserkers.com
Keyword: wb (or you can put whatever shorthand you want to trigger the search. Trigger the search by typing in ‘wb’ + Tab)
URL with %s in place of query: https://wineberserkers.com/forum/search.php?keywords=%s

Same thing as you mentioned above, but just making it easier to pull up WB search in Chrome champagne.gif

I really like narrowing down by doing multiple searches.

Do a search and then enter another word in the search box and it’ll only search those post returned in the first results
