Three staple items in your fridge that probably aren't in most folks...

Kesso tzatziki- rich greek yogurt with cucumber and garlic

Sweet Nam pla

confit of onion and tomato from the Bouchon cookbook.

Maille Fins Gourmets mustard
fish sauce
black kale

I think you guys are either 1) making all this shit up or 2) weirdos.

Dick Krueger:

Salt-preserved Capers

Wish I could find a decent (not overpriced) source for these.

What are you looking to pay? Central Market has these in bulk and I bet they will survive shipping.

I last paid $2.99 for 100g. I don’t remember what I’ve paid before.

I keep my salt-preserved capers at room temp.

Doesn’t everyone? Why not?

I suddenly don’t think our stuff is that weird! I guess I’d have to go with:

Baked tofu
Soy milk
Jar of egg whites

Oh no Poppy, I withheld my similar list out of deference to our meat eating, soy hating cry babies. [cry.gif]

To go with the flour, goat cheese and wonder bread? [wink.gif]

Capers
Salted Anchovies
Parmigiano Reggiano

Tofurkey, anyone? Damn thing looks like Play-Doh.

A shrunken head
A picture of Edward James Olmos’ ass (in original case)
John Holmes’ penis frozen in carbonite

Pickled Tomatoes
Herring
The rest seems pretty common to me

(what can I say…I’m a good little Russian!)

I wonder if some folks misread the question… it’s not what you happen to have in your fridge, at this particular moment, that might be considered unusual, but what you routinely stock – day in and day out – in your fridge that most of the country doesn’t.

Having beet juice in your fridge for a particular dish is one thing… keeping it as a staple would be grounds for commitment…

My answer remains true.

Sesame oil, Walnut oil, fresh roasted ripe coffe beans, but not the kind that came out of a civet cat’s bottom, which actually are the best, (the beans not the bottom.)

Hey Girl!!! That was fun partying with you at Morgan’s house Friday!!! I can vouch for some of your reefer’s contents!

I’ve probably had the beet juice in my fridge for more than a year. It keeps, and the opportunities are rare, and the bottle is small. However I just bought and roasted a dozen baby golden beets from the farmer’s market (also in the fridge) and as soon as I buy some “ashy Chêvre” I am back in business.

Haha!! Oops!! When did you guys end up leaving?? That was a very funny night.

Something about monkey brains in a briefcase??
