Thoughts on Vérité

I have an opportunity to buy a couple bottles of Vérité for a good bit less than the typical retail price (which is admittedly, horrifically high). Always been curious about these wines (le desire especially), and wondering if any fine folks on WB recommend? CT reviews are pretty consistently high, but having never tried these, it feels like a pretty high stakes gamble!

I recently attended a trade lunch for Verite earlier this week, we tasted '19s along with a few back vintage options. I remember thinking that the winery is headed in a good direction as I walked away… buzzed! Seriously though it is my humble opinion that Desir was the best young as well as with age - we tasted the '09 as the older option. Franc is just such a breath of fresh air when I am drinking from California and I would highly recommend it. If it is blue chip you want, I would say it is one of the more prestigious estates outside of Napa and you would be doing well adding a few bottles to your collection.

From the Jackson portfolio I prefer Lokoya to Verite, with the one exception being Le Desir, Franc shines in their program.

Good to know! Le desir is the one I’m definitely eyeing. I can also pick up a bottle of Cardinale, but not Lokoya, unfortunately, otherwise it would certainly be on my list.

Cardinale is okay. Lokoya Mt Veeder is my vote for best mountain Cab in CA.

Lots of threads relative to value and tariff including a relatively recent one where I put out my thoughts on Abreu and how it continues to impress me despite its rapidly increasing price . . . This is not an argument as to whether it is worth its price, just an argument that they seem to produce great wine. Last year I was invited to a birthday dinner where a friend pulled out a 2014 La Muse. I am not a huge Merlot fan, though I can appreciate a great wine when it is presented to me. All I can say is that was a great wine. I can’t say whether it is worth the tariff for you and I don’t think I will be buying Merlot at such an elevated price (alas there will likely be no Masseto in my future), but in empirical terms, it was fabulously expressive, balanced, delicious and having the longest finish of any Merlot I have had including several Right Bank Premier Grand Cru Classe A wines. It is good juice in my estimation.
