Thoughts on La Violette?

Any thoughts on : Chateau La Violette 2005
Offered at around $90, but have not tried this before.

I’m not familiar with this wine but I’d be interested in knowing more as well. My daughter’s name is Violette and her birth year is 2005. What’s odd is that the only Chateau La Violette that I see on Wine searcher costs around $25, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

The Violette is a VERY small producer and I believe only really started moving wine in any volume in the 2006 vintage. This is the wine that score 98pts in 09 and 100pts in 2010 from RP. From what I understand, it’s made in a VERY fruit forward style with plenty of super ripe fruit and oak. I, myself, have not tried this wine before but likely will be trying the 2009 soon.

Close to Rouget, Croix du Gay, Eglise Clinet, etc. Got the name from the intense aromatics of the wine - violets. Haven’t tasted but heard good things from a friend who works at a neighboring estate (Domaine Roses Camille)

Changed owner around 2005. Was a little lacklustre before (I drunk some early 2000’s was a bit low level pomerol, but was bought by a Lady who owns another Pomeerol and transformed into a RP scoring wine. …and the price shot up. I have not tasted from new generation (change of label, by the way). So, don’t know precisely whether 2005 is old or new reegime. Giveen the price, I would bet old regime because it is now costing in the 100s $, so check because if old regim, 90$ is overpriced.

Could not find the 05 in Wine Searcher but the 06 is in the 180-200 range. It would definitely interesting to find out if it is old or new regime.

Maybe the retailer is trying to scam by masking the 2005 as part of the recent top rated vintages.
