Can anyone share some insight on these two Guigal wines? I’ve only had a handful of tastes of Ampuis, never the SJ, but am thinking of buying a sixer of one or perhaps 3 and 3 of each to stash away. I’d appreciate general thoughts and experiences on the two.
The vintages I’m looking at are 2019 L’Hospice and 2018 Ampuis. Cheers!
I don’t know what the actual production numbers are, nor the true scarcity, but I’ve only ever seen the SJ VdH at one place ever … and that was an off vintage blanc. The Ampuis Cote Rotie is more available in my observation, even if not ‘common’. Maybe you can check your area’s secondary market to see what can be found.
My preference is to use cellar spots for items that, if I personally don’t squirrel them away, are going to be hard to procure when mature.
IMO the CR Ch.d Ampuis is a more interesting and complex wine, the SJ Hospice is a very good SJ, but typically more fruit-driven, less complex ( and too expensive).
