“Keller announced the decision on Instagram, saying it was too difficult to make the restaurant viable after this year’s economic downturn in Napa Valley and ‘a lack of local traffic.’”
Another ominous sign of downstream effects in Napa.
It seems to imply a hollowing out of the non-tourist. He’s not closing down the higher end, tourist driven restaurants. The economy is increasingly tilted to those who need $250 cabs like a hole in the head. I would think the implication is greater pent up risk in the local economy, as people may eventually start accepting holes in the head than $250 cabs.
Never been to La Calenda. As long as El Molino Central in Sonoma and Mothers Tacos in Napa are open, I’ll never make it as far as Yountville for Mexican food
Pretty much. I don’t know anyone who has gone there, but a ton of people who have gone to all of his other restaurants. Mexican food is not really thought of as an oenophile’s go-to cuisine. When I’m in Napa, I’m thinking Bouchon, Mustards, etc., not $15 flautas (that being said, they do sound very good).
