I’d guess furring strips would be the easiest, and cleanest approach. Just pad out the wall behind the strips to get an even application.
All you need is one screw for each rack, with a anchor if you need it. Just don’t try to climb up them – they’re not going to tip over absent significant pulling.
They won’t tip over easily if filled from top to bottom, but they definitely need to be anchored. I have those same WRA racks, and I like them. However, they weren’t as stable as you would want until they were anchored with a few screws through the back.
Thanks andrew/andrew/gene, I will try that today. Screwing them to each other seemed to work well to get them stabilized and plumb on the wall that is already done. I’m going to try to get a furring strip to fit, might take some futzing due to the waviness of the wall.
…
BTW, you probably don’t even need a furring strip so much as some sort of spacer/standoff to fill the gap between the wall and the top rear rail.
I’m thinking something like this:
Just get some in different lengths, and screws in various lengths. And make sure kids don’t try to climb the racks.
How about a metal “L” bracket? But best way is to make sure they are level and plumb.
Those spacers look like they will work, I just need to get an anchor in the wall. And hopefully the kids won’t be using the cellar as a jungle Jim, glad I put a lock on the door!
spacers are not a good option. metal l bracket is much stronger. conceptualize.
I ended up firing them out top and bottom and securing them with tapcon screws. They are solid and not going anywhere. Have one more wall left to get racking in then it’s time to break out some champagne.
Finally getting close. Racking in and trimmed out.
Just waiting on the granite guy to come by and measure. Then I need to pick out a light fixture for the main soffit.
I’m jealous.
It’s come together really nicely. Congrats.
That simple style of wood trim is exactly what I did inside my cellar. Except I still don’t have the sexy wood door, deliberately so as not to signal to thieves there’s something special here. But it is tempting…
Really jealous!! Especially since half of my wine is in my buddies cellar and he is talking about moving out of town in the next year or so. I’ve got a real problem on my hands since Richmond is not big enough to offer wine storage.
