This is Why I Do it.

Seems like every year I take on a new customer. At the time I ask myself why. Its hard enough to deal with people buying 5-10 tons. They are the people that Sasha calls the ‘one ton pain in the ass’ folks. Anyway, this young woman (she a buyer for K&L) contacted me this past summer asking to buy 200 pounds of Grenache. I was very worried that our Gre wouldn’t make it this year and she just stayed in contact via email and didn’t become a bother. Long story short she came up the other day and got her fruit. Hope this link works.

Just don’t call her a “200-lb pain in the ass” unless you wanna get slapped.

Very cool, Casey! Hand-destemming and foot-stomping - winemaking the old-fashioned way! Nice photo of PeeWee too.

BTW, the Counoise Sasha got from you started fermenting a couple of days ago, still waiting for the co-fermented Grenache and Syrah to take off - I’ll check it out shortly. Love the Counoise! Very aromatic, a bit like the Grenache but with some floral character and a lot of spice. Really looking forward to seeing how that develops.

Nicely done, amigo.
Best, Jim

It’s the one-tonners that think they’re 100-tonners that I could see as being PITAs. But if they don’t ask much of you, then it should be a positive. Especially if they start producing larger quantities and buy more!

Casey, I went to a wine group wine and dinner event with about 25 members this month where the theme was Mendocino Co. Wines, of which we had two bottles each of about a dozen different wines of all types provided by the group’s event organizer. One was an 03 Coro (whose producer I’ll withhold). Now as it happens, I brought my own Mag of 02 Eaglepoint Ranch Coro to share with the mix. It was really the hit of the event. Just smoked the other Coro, as well as the other big reds present.

All the Best!

Very cool. MLV has a nice style of writing as well. Looks like she is having a blast.

Welcome to WB Best of luck with your wine-in-progress!

Mel! That kid’s starting to look a little scary!

Casey,
Being one of those “'one ton pain in the ass” folks, I have to say that I’m so glad for vineyard owners / managers who are willing to do that for those of us that have young companies and can’t quite afford the 30 - 50 ton buy.
Without guys like you we’re dead in the water so I hope you know how much guys like me (us) appreciate it.

Brandon;

Hey I enjoyed seeing you with Gary V! I hope I can get you a couple of tons of AV pinot soon!

Well said Brandon!

I couldn’t agree more about the kind souls who are willingly to help out the little guys.

+1

Casey et al,

Bottom line is that good people take care of others - and Casey, you are ‘good people’!

In this day and age, vineyard owners/managers that get ‘picky’ may have troubles moving forward - you gotta take what you can get. And who knows which one of these ‘one on pain in the ass’ customers will eventually grow into a much larger concern?!?!? Do you really want to ‘guess wrong’?!?!

Cheers to all!
