Had the pleasure of meeting Patrick Reuter, owner and winemaker at Dominio IV in McMinnville, and trying a bunch of his wines. I have to say, while I was not initially very familiar with the Dominio IV label, I left a convert. These are wonderfully natural, balanced wines atprice points that make sense. From the viognier to the tempranillo, each expressed the characteristics of the variety and of where it came from beautifully, with grace and style. All of these wines go great with food and each wine seemed unique one from the other. I ordered a bunch and will continue to eagerly watch this label in the future. Definitely my kind of wine.

2007 Dominio IV Syrah You Write in Wine Three Sleeps Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Columbia Gorge (7/13/2012)
Meaty notes of forest floor, blackberry compote, morels and oolong tea. With time in the glass the wine expands adding dusty baker’s chocolate and provencal herbs. The palate is velvety, black-fruited, perfectly balanced and generous. Coating, furry tannic finish. Another outstanding wine from the under appreciated 2007 vintage. (92 pts.) -
2007 Dominio IV Tempranillo The Tango Three Sleeps Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Columbia Gorge (7/13/2012)
The proverbial meal in a glass. I am not a huge domestic tempranillo fan but this wine delivers in spades. Initially fairly straight forward plum, spicy Mexican chocolate and cracked pepper, with time in the glass this wine morphs. Intense dried cherry, sandalwood, leather and cigar tobacco create a nuanced, old world mélange. Even with all of these elements, the wine shows great integration. Great structure and balanced acids front to back, the palate picks up the racy red fruit, tobacco and spices to a long, teeth coating finish. This wine will do well with food and will develop complexity with time in the cellar. Love it. (92 pts.) -
2010 Dominio IV Pinot Noir Willakaia - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (7/13/2012)
Bright juicy notes of Queen Anne cherry, cranberry, rhubarb and blood orange. To me, this is a dead ringer for Cru Beaujolais. Palate has great intensity, bright acids and balance, picking up some cardamom and pepper to go with the zingy fruit. A youthful, exuberant wine that can be enjoyed now as a romp with food or layed down for awhile to add some complexity and nuance. A real pleasure. (91 pts.) -
2011 Dominio IV Viognier Still Life - USA, Oregon (7/13/2012)
Crisp notes of Bosc pear, white stone fruit, Meyer lemon zest and honeysuckle. Deftly balanced . Gliding palate picks up some spice to the finish. Just a pleasure. One of the better domestic viogniers I have ever had and at $20 an amazing value. (91 pts.) -
2009 Dominio IV Pinot Noir A Monk’s Amble - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (7/13/2012)
Notes of black cherry, licorice root, tisane and rose hip. More of a masculine, big boned, four square pinot. The palate is firm, red and black fruit, cardamom and Asia’s spice driven. The finish is pronounced. Lovely now, this wine will certainly benefit from time in the cellar. (90 pts.)
