The Taittinger Comtes Thread

Hard pass at $180/btl

I tasted this within the last two weeks at the end of the tour at Taittinger in Reims.

I thought it was so tight it was affirmatively not enjoyable – obviously, I don’t have William Kelley levels of Champagne tasting experience, but I couldn’t even project it on potential and I do have SOME experience tasting too-young Champagne. I’m unlikely to buy it and I LOVE the 2007 and 2008.

To be fair, the fact that I was huffing and puffing after climbing eight flights of stairs back up from the caves at the end of the tour may have contributed to my bewilderment.

If anything, it should have tasted better after all this. Lol

Had a couple of bottles of the 08 last weekend. First was quite a bit tighter than the second. It’s my favourite 08 so far Fwiw.

Also had a few of the roses on tuesday night. 06 in mag and 07 and 96 in bottle. Very reminiscent of the regular bdb comtes but with a lovely hunt of elegant red fruit. The 96 was absolutely ravishing in a very elegant style. The 06 in mag was already firing on all cylinders but will only get better and better from here, especially in the larger format. The 07 was only a smidge behind the 06 and that may have been due to the format. Given how much of a value play the bdb has always been and the crazy premia other producers charge for their roses, when you can still buy the rose for the same price as the bdb it’s a screaming buy.

Had a beautiful bottle of 2005 last night.

$180 is a lot of coin for “useful.”

agree. I’ll drink 08 while 08 is aging! Fabulous wine

I agree. I think is going to be my next Comtes purchase, although I am concerned about how they are going to price it.

A bad price on any wine is a hard pass. Just got an offer for 2011 at about $120.

All I see on WineSearcher is a low price of $179 (Woodland Hills), otherwise typically $190-200. Nothing close to $120…

160 Euros (VAT included) at the Taittinger boutique in Reims

It was an email offer from Farr in the UK. £1070 per dozen, which coincidently was the same price the 2008 was originally offered at.

I just had the 07 Comtes last night. This is my wine. Fresh baked bread, green apple, and lemon zest on the palette with beautiful small bubbles. This is my favorite Champagne to date, and will continue to procure bottles over time!

I think you mean you enjoyed the palette of flavors on your palate and would like a pallet of this wine.

lemme talk to Rudy. He can do it.

William’s review was just published.

Vinsent delivered my 08 CdC!

As they did for 3 of us in SB

I had not heard of Vincent before but I just ordered a 6-pack. How detailed was the tracking information and how long from order to delivery? Is it bottles made for the US or grey market?

Btw, I had a bottle of '11 Comtes delivered yesterday that I plan on trying this weekend.

ordered late Aug, was told shipped by reefer, received last week. Haven’t taken paper off to see strip label.
