There was a period in the late 1990s early 2000s when Ridge was using long crappy corks. Prone to turning to dust; crumble city. Thatās when I decided I needed a Durand.
I snapped the worm on a cheap cork screw recently. Also, broke the rim on a wine bottle finished with cork and cut my thumb pretty good. Iāve avoided a hat trick.
I too am batting 1000. Never had an issue with the Durand, sounds like user error. My Durand has taken out some nasty corks over the years. I think the issue may be that after the ah-so is entered, you must turn more than pull.
I bought a Durand right after it was released and it has worked beautifully on many older bottles. Until I tried to open a mid 90ās Bordeaux (I forget what it was). I put the Durend in correctly and twisted it to loosen the cork and nothing. The cork was stuck in so tight that one of the Ah So tines twisted. I struggled with it but eventually got the cork to release. I tried to bend the ah so back but couldnāt quite get it back to where it was.
Another bottle of Bordeaux before that had the cork completely turn to dust with the Durand. Not the fault of the Durand, but the cork. Still a great tool for any wine lover.
Thanks, I bought one on Amazon and it broke on first use. Turns out it was a knockoff. I reached out to Durand and they suggested only buying directly from them to ensure that it is their product.
I seen that one on Amazon and something felt off as I checked the Strand website and there was no sale. Glad to purchase through Nola and get the BD15 off!
