The Garagiste Thread (The Great Enabler) Back to Life

That’s pretty much exactly what I did and coincidentally grabbed 3 2016s for $90 each lol. Washington wines seem to not hold up at auction compared to release price

Any ideas?

$208.70, a 30.4% markup from QC’s February offer ($160.00).

That description probably fits half the white wines in WV, if you go by wine name and not total production numbers. In my experience, nearly all that fit the description are drinkable, and none exceptional.

Yea. I’ve had good luck with most garagiste mystery wines, including some $9 ones. (Top Source from Washington particularly good.)

But nothing here that made me buy. Too much possibility of a boring wine.

That aligns with the $158+ CT community average price yesterday when the Garagiste offer went out. (As expected direct purchase from the winery was the only “Store” listed.)

I’m surprised they required such a large premium to list/club price for this non-vineyard-specific wine.

Funny. I’ve had the opposite experience. All underwhelming and poor values and 50% or more tasted like Brett.

In the mystery space, I almost never buy above $20, and usually it’s just a singleton, so if it’s a disappointment, it’s no big deal. I will say that I buy less wine this way these days, now that I have too much wine as it is.

Everyone has their own approach to reading between the lines of the frequently ridiculous prose, but every so often there’s still one that calls to me, and I’ve mostly been pleased with the result. :man_shrugging:

There are some crazy mystery deals though, especially Italian.
The Barolos and Brunellos are often solid.

As reported by Owen Bargreen and Virginie Boone (jebdunnuck.com), vineyards are 90% Champoux and 10% Mach One, both within the Horse Heaven Hills AVA. QC’s website indicates Champoux and Mach One, but not the percentages. Vineyards are not indicated on the bottle.

though often not solid also. YMMV.

Does anyone know what the mystery bottle (earth) that was released last Sept for $78.70?

2021 Garage Wine Co. Cru Truquilemu Cariñena Field Blend (Carignan Blend) from Chile

I’ve not seen this producer before. Fingers crossed that this will be worthy of the price

I’ve enjoyed this producer over the years, particularly their Cab Francs and Pais.
