I’ve bought a good number of mystery offers. Mostly satisfied to very satisfied. Never any real duds. Pricing is sharp but you never walk away feeling u got a steal.
I’ve been good about resisting the Mystery offers, but today’s 2019 Barolo Mystery “Single Cru” 750ml (Piedmont) · $29.90 is hard to resist. Any ideas?
I requested 3. Gargiste’s track record with Piedmont mystery seems better than many others.
No clue but seems like a nice low-risk buy.
Another mystery - the #4 Labor Day mystery Oregon Pinot is…
2018 Keeler Estate Vineyard “Heart” Pinot Noir
Can’t say I’m super excited but will give it a try!
I rarely buy Garagiste mysteries, maybe once every few years after the pain/disappointment has worn off, so I forget, repeating the cycle again. But this one from the Fall of 2020 - which took forever to arrive - ended up being the 2018 Schiavenza [Barbera d’Alba] as Sean advised earlier. At 13.5% abv it was light, fresh and delicious. I was assuming it would be too tart or leathery for my preferences, but it was finely balanced with red berry flavors, and then complexity on the nose - sandalwood, almond, marzipan. Enough acid to keep for a few days I think, so the rest of the bottle went into the fridge. Nomacorc closed. Easy B+ for my palate. It’s at a fine point for consumption today
A whole bird chicken fricassee, although the sauce was a bit lumpy. File this under ‘Food that Tastes Better than it Looks’
Mystery Italians from Jon are one of the safest bets out there along with Washington.

11/26/22 2016 Brunello Riserva Mystery - $59.74

In for the Chablis Mystery today. Worst case, $30 for $30 Chablis but upside.
I considered it, but was too late.
I almost went for it, but then remembered I can get 1er Chablis for $18 - $25 i passed.
Out of curiosity, what 1er Chablis are you still finding for that price? Not doubting, just legitimately interested. I was just thinking the other day how I have bought far less Chablis as the prices have increased. Not that the increases have been insane, just that I see fewer deals.
I was thinking the same thing. In today’s market finding 1er Chablis sub-$25 is a score. Finding sub-$20 bottles is incredible. We are talking 750ml here, right?
Anyone in on $9.96 mystery Chianti?
Doesnt seem worth paying the shipping if you arent local.
Truth
Quickly becomes the $15 Chianti
Sorry, I meant the $14.96 Chianti
Speaking of, what’s Garagiste’s shipping fee like these days? East coast, to be more specific.

My case was $45.63 to NJ
I’m sure they have tremendous buying power and smaller retailers and wineries can’t get near this rate
Same, i think I pay 44 something. Im pretty happy with the price, but its enought that random 10 dollar bottles i can replace locally are not worth it.
