The Bourbon Thread

I saw some William LaRue Weller for $600 a pop at the Shop-Rite supermarket store in Rockaway NJ. Go get 'em.

I am hopping in my car! [snort.gif]

Bourbon Pursuit is a great bourbon podcast site.

Any one have opinion on Elmer Lee? And, see any of the commemorative bottles around?

The regular old Elmer T. Lee is fantastic, in my opinion. I used to be of the opinion that it was the best sub-$30 bottle in the Virginia ABC store. I haven’t actually seen a bottle on the shelf in about two years, unfortunately. One of those regular bottles that has become relatively scarce, it would seem.

I am drinking Elmer T. Lee tonight for the first time and I have to say it is the best damn bourbon that I have enjoyed in a Long time. Actually, there is a noticeable comparison to Pappy 10 & 12. Damn, for a fraction of the price this is a no brainer.

Looking for a 2015 Four Roses Small Batch LE. See commerce corner for my offer.

Thank you.

Whiskey Exchange has the 2014 4R LE in stock at retail pricing. $98 plus shipping from UK

Great Deal if shipping wasn’t absurd. $40 for a lone bottle making the total $138. They limit you to one bottle as well and most of the other stuff on the site is not priced great. Still a really good price, but I hate the fact that I have to pay $40 to ship a single bottle.

Old Forester 1897 bottled in bond - have enjoyed this bourbon greatly. Finished the remains of a bottle tonight and will get another tomorrow. Enjoyed neat and as a cocktail. Decent value.

Weller 107 in an old fashioned and Weller 12 neat. The Weller 12 always lives up to its label. The cocktail with the 107 was excellent.

I’ve been stocking up on Eagle Rare 10 lately. It doesn’t get distribution in South Carolina for some reason. Picked up a bottle in MI, and 3 more recently in NC. Probably the best QPR Bourbon there is. I mean $27-32 per bottle and it’s one of my favorites.

Yes, I need to locate a bottle, heard great things about it also.

I’ve bought it from here before, not sure what the shipping laws are in NV

Eagle Rare is usually available at Total Wine (specifically at the Palm Desert CA store) for $27 a bottle. Assuming it would be at most Total wine stores.
It’s a few dollars more at HiTime in Costa Mesa but they’ll ship it to you and they run a great retail shop. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I just found out that Heaven Hill is dropping the age statement from the Elijah Craig 12 yr. You can read the details on the link below but while it makes sense it’s sad to see. It’s time to bunker some before it switches over.

Gerry - thank you for that update. At least they are being open on the deal. I don’t think it’s going to impact them at all (negatively).

Thanks, but shipping to NV is a no-no for spirits. The Total Wine by me is hit and miss with some of these items.

Darn, serves me right for not checking on the thread first before pulling the trigger on the Harper at $85 or so. Oh, well, it’s coming to me now, so will report back.

Mike

WT Master’s Keep - I liked it enough to buy 5 bottles. Another demonstration of the subjectivity of taste.
I didn’t care for the IW Harper 15.
Tonight am sipping Woodford Reserve double-oaked and an old fashioned from same. Nice.
Last night I poured a dram of Wyoming Whisky neat and made an old fashioned with it also. Neat, it was very good. But something happened with the cocktail. It was “off”. Never happened to me before but I’m thinking it must have been a reaction to the bitters. Can’t figure it out.
Got a bottle of Blood Oath which I’ll try in the next week.
