The Blind Pig in Orange County

I have been meaning to post on this place. I went to check out the bar (fantastic), but ended up having dinner. First, no corkage so I have to love the place. I tried the pork belly and the chorizo ravioli, both dishes were cooked to perfection. Portions were reasonable. The place was busy, but the service was attentive and accurate.

Cool. I’ll check it out. Free corkage is always a win.

It’s in BFE for me. $15 for corkage or gas?

BFE? $15? When did you ever pop just one bottle?

Thanks for the translation for Jay, Kevin. [cheers.gif] I can’t believe he doesn’t know BFE, though.

Is the first word bite?

No.

Thanks Jay, will wander down and check er out.

Any more opinions on this place? It’s close to home, and I’ve been meaning to try it, but haven’t made it over there yet. The Yelp reviews are pretty mixed (though I know how those things can be)…

I went there again, and this experience was mediocre. Service was ok, but the food overcooked. I will go again.

Wandered in last night expecting it to be mobbed. About half full. Sat at bar. Definitely the coolio scene last night, the waitstaff looked the part but couldn’t walk the walk. They all seemed confused and bumping into each other. Wine list was pretty weak, they went with lower end wines and they let me try a few. Nothing worth ordering so went with a Tramp Stamp Belgian - very good.
Best dish we had was a warm burratta and romesco with toasted bread. Could have been warmer but was a nice combo. Next was scallops and again pretty good if not a little overcooked. Final dish was duck confit with a duck sausage, gnocchi in a weird sauce. Didn’t get this dish and you really couldn’t tell what you were eating. Waste of duck confit. Guy next to us let us try a deep fried artichoke heart with a dipping sauce. Ech! He had a bowl full of them, I could barely get one down.
Nice looking restaurant but seems to be lacking direction, especially on their menu. With a name like Blind Pig you would think the menu would be full of pork. Only one dish - a pork belly something or another and didn’t sound too good. Talking with a couple of locals that frequent this place, RSM is a foodie ghost town so they are hopeful this place makes it.
