The best wienerschnitzel in NYC

Well, the best I’ve had anyway [wink.gif]

http://www.cafesabarsky.com/

Kleines Wr. Schnitzel mit Kartoffel
Gurkensalat & Preiselbeeren
Small Wiener Schnitzel with Potato-Cucumber
Salad & Lingonberries

Perfectly prepared, and the pot. salad was breautifully spiced. Enjoyed with a glass of 2008 Rosé (Pinot Noir) Weingut Loimer, Kamptal. Light, refreshing, good balance and acidity, smooth, tho the color was slightly unappealing – not really rosé, more on the brown side. The resto itself is very elegant. They even have a “newspaper rack” as in old-style German or Austrian places – the papers are in wooden holders (along the fold) hung on hooks. Don’t see those much anymore!

Owned by the same group (and hence likely the same schnitzel) is Wallsee, in which case I concur. Decent wine list too.

Cheers

Isn’t Cafe Sabarsky the one in the museum? Neue Galerie?

I love that place, and have eaten there several times. Once I went when I was sick and could “only” tolerate the beef consomme. I have to say that even THAT was memorable, just perfectly done.

It is a little piece of old Vienna. I wonder if I could order Tafelspitz there?

Frank

Yes that’s the place. The museum is worth visiting as well. Don’t recall if they had Tafelspitz, but maybe the menu is online.
