First BD - all the producers were new to me. Tried to buy from a few that seem to be board favorites:
Sabelli Frisch (Mission)
Vincent (mixed case of chard, gamay, pinot)
Goodfellow (Bob Wood deal)
DiCo (DiCo and the Montecillo)
Calluna (Estate Vertical)
JB Neufeld (Offer with the Cheval in it)

Kelley Fox x12 - new
Walter Scott x12
Grassl - 6x Liberte and a couple 1855s to fill out a set
Veleta - 6x olive oil
Flannery - a bunch for myself and family… need to figure out how to find space in my apartment’s tiny freezer.
Overall, a higher bottle count over fewer producers than last year, partly because some of the folks I bought from didn’t/couldn’t participate this year.
That’s the one. Greg dal Piaz brought the 1990 to Minetta Tavern in March, 2000 and after a very trepidatious sip I discovered it was pretty good. Of course that one was 10 years old rather than 54 but I’m still really curious.
I was on a “no buying wine in January” plan so I could make a dent in my storage. I knew I’d end up buying something on BD but I ignored all the warnings of the BD veterans about what my credit card would do. I told myself I could keep my purchases to “just a few bottles”, certainly less than a case.
Instead, BD13 added 4 1/2 cases of new wine coming in so the supply reduction plan’s out the window. Going to have to work on the demand side instead!
That said, I had a great time doing it… What an event!
Next year, I’ll pick December to try and not buy wine.
My plan got Mike Tysoned and I’m probably sleeping on the couch when the next credit card statement arrives. But it’s a lot less than many of you, too.
