Thanks for making our first BerserkerDay so special! - Perry Colin - Oregon Chardonnay from Organic Vineyards

Thanks @ToddFrench, @MChang, and @Brian_G_r_a_f_s_t_r_o_m for your help getting us here!

Perry Colin is a project founded in 2024 by Matt Perry and Simon Colin. We focus exclusively on producing Chardonnay grown by like-minded farmers using organic, biodynamic & regenerative vineyard practices. We are offering a pre-release of our inaugural vintage for BD17!

Who are we?

Matt and Simon first met in 2016 at Adelsheim Vineyard, where Simon joined as an intern working alongside Matt on the white wine program. Simon came to Oregon to deepen his understanding of Pinot Noir and improve his English. In a fortuitous twist of fate, Simon became chef de cave for the white wine harvest while also helping Matt sharpen his French. The following year, Matt was promoted to Assistant Winemaker, overseeing Adelsheim’s white wine program. In 2022, he took on a new role as Winemaker at 00 Wines.

Meanwhile, in 2017, Simon launched his own négoce label based in Chassagne-Montrachet while working at Etienne Sauzet in Puligny-Montrachet. By 2021, the project evolved into a full estate when Simon assumed stewardship of the majority of his family’s vineyards. Despite the distance, our parallel paths allowed us to reconnect regularly in Oregon or Burgundy. Our friendship continued to grow, grounded in a shared passion for wine. When we’re not in the cellar, you’ll likely find us watching basketball with an ice-cold beer in hand!

The offers:

Only 1200 bottles of each single-vineyard wine were produced, and 4600 bottles of our Willamette Valley blend, Oregon Blanc. We are fortunate to work with several export partners, so only half of the stock is for sale in the USA. As such, we have had to limit quantities available for BD17. Since we don’t have much wine to sell, there also isn’t a “store” on our website. I created special BD17 allocations that are available under the Join the Club section here.

What do we do?

Our philosophy is rooted in the vineyard. We partner exclusively with growers who share our commitment to organic farming, often incorporating biodynamic and regenerative practices as well. We place a high value on vine age, working primarily with sites that have moved beyond their youthful phase and are beginning to express true vineyard character. These grower relationships are built on collaboration and mutual curiosity, together we make decisions throughout the season on pruning, disbudding, canopy management, cover crops, and crop yield, all with the shared goal of growing the highest quality fruit possible. In the cellar, our approach is intentional and restrained. We harvest at a point that preserves natural acidity while capturing a balance of citrus and orchard fruit. Grapes are hand-sorted, then gently crushed before pressing to increase the level of solids in the juice. Our press cycles are designed to extract full flavor and texture, using rotations and higher pressures to capture the vineyard’s essence. The juice is treated oxidatively and allowed to brown naturally before a later addition of sulfur. It is then transferred, along with its lees, into 350L and 500L barrels, where native fermentation begins without inoculation. We favor large-format barrels for their subtle oak influence and ability to maintain a more reductive environment during élevage. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously. After one year in barrel, the wines are moved to stainless steel tanks with full lees for additional aging prior to bottling. This second phase allows the wines to harmonize, integrate, and build gentle structure. Bottled under natural cork and sealed with wax, our wines are intended to age gracefully, reflecting both place and philosophy with clarity and depth.

Taster notes from @Brian_G_r_a_f_s_t_r_o_m

TLDR; These are extremely impressive. Very young, but waaaaay impressive. I already put my name in to be on their mailing list, with the hope that they actually do move forward with a mailing list.

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Oregon Blanc Johan Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/5/2025)

– vigorous splash decant 50 min. before initial taste on Day 1 –

– tasted blind alongside two other 2024 Perry Colin Chardonnays over 9 days –

NOSE: Very tight and high-toned; clean and reductive; cantaloupe and honeydew melon. Comes across as the “lightest” and least sulfury/reduced of the three. Lots of mineral.

BODY: slightly hazy pale yellow color (all three wines look the same); light bodied.

TASTE: Light and tight with medium+ to high acidity, although the acidity is less pronounced than with the other two. No obvious oak; some lightly-buttered popcorn (reduction) on Day 1. This leads with mineral tones, and then has light fruit supporting it in the background. Comes across as lighter than the other two – both with respect to flavor and dry extract. The background fruit is tangy. Quinine finish. Still light, but with a surprising amount of flavor on Day 6, and then by the time this was getting finished on Day 9 it was still rockin’ and rollin’ with no signs of degradation. Labelled at 12.5% alc., and it’s not noticeable. This is quite promising, but needs lots of time.

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Oregon Blanc Grand Oak Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/5/2025)

– vigorous splash decant 50 min. before initial taste on Day 1 –

– tasted blind alongside two other 2024 Perry Colin Chardonnays over 9 days –

NOSE: tight, but more aromatic than the Johan vnyd; perhaps a touch sulfury and/or reduced on Day 1; aromatically virtually indistinguishable from the Tsai vnyd on Day 1; hint of oak; interesting light musky camphor note after being open for a couple hours. Still sulfury/reduced on Day 2. On Day 3 this was tight and bright, with something a bit jazzy and zesty now in the mix; buttered popcorn Jelly Belly jellybean still hanging around on Day 3. Bright and a touch buttery on Day 4, with no obvious reduction anymore. Interesting chalky wintergreen coconut on Day 6.

BODY: slightly hazy pale yellow color (all three wines look the same); light bodied.

TASTE: on Day 1, this was light on the palate with good juicy acidity; seems to be more open than the Tsai vnyd right off the bat; light oak (more than Johan and Tsai); like this a lot On Day 2 this was more giving than the Tsai vnyd bottling; longest finish of the three wines being tasted; seems packed, despite being light on its feet. Excellent! Revisited on Days 3, 4, 6, and 9, and each of those days confirmed this one as my favorite of the three. Impressive juicy acidity with bright tangy fruit. To be clear, all three are excellent, but this one was my favorite. Labelled at 12% alc., and it’s not noticeable. Needs time, but probably the most approachable of the three today. I’m impressed!

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Oregon Blanc Tsai Vineyard - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (12/5/2025)

– vigorous splash decant 50 min. before initial taste on Day 1 –

– tasted blind alongside two other 2024 Perry Colin Chardonnays over 9 days –

NOSE: on Day 1 this is tight, but more giving than the Johan vnyd; similar reduction/sulfur as Grand Oak vnyd, but a bit less of it; remained frustratingly reduced over the course of 4 hrs on Day1. Day 2 revealed some steely and tangy aromas — not terribly dissimilar from Chablis or Puligny; little pyrazine hit, as well as hint of Ajwain seed. Restrained yellow-fruited Chard. aromas on Day 2. Unfurling more on Day 3, showing more of its bright and tangy character, but still a bit reduced and sulfury (kerosene and burnt candle). Hint of brie on Day 4, with the reduction/sulfur still hanging around. Light melon with a hint of pyrazine on Day 6.

BODY: slightly hazy pale yellow color (all three wines look the same); light bodied.

TASTE: Light on the palate with good acidity; light oak (less than Grand Oak, more than Johan); flavor-wise, this is in-between the Johan and the Grand Oak, but it’s closer to the Grand Oak. Impressive flavor for such a lightweight package. Lots of mineral on Day 2, which carried-over into Day 3, but with tangy bright fruit becoming more assertive. Medium+ to high acidity. Still a bit reduced on Day 3. Light and tight on Day 4. On Day 6, we have a hint of pyrazine coming through, and it’s also a touch smoky (perhaps still the reduction/sulfur). Finally, on Day 9, we still have a noticeable pyrazine element and that lovely restrained bright tangy fruit. Labelled at 12.5% alc., and it’s not noticeable. Exciting material here, but I’d recommend letting it rest in the cellar for awhile.

Taster notes from @MChang .

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Johan Vineyard

Lots of reduction on the nose initially, and this took awhile to open up. After about half an hour open this blossomed into a beautiful wine with lovely stone fruit and honeysuckle on the nose, some citrus and stone fruit with significant depth on the palate and a long, pleasant finish. This wine changed the most of the bottles over time, and really would benefit from some time in bottle.

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Grand Oak Vineyard

A bit less reduction than the Johan, but this was more reticient initially. After some time, it did open up and unfurl a pretty nose of lemon zest and white flowers. The palate was more integrated than the other bottlings, merging into a long languorous finish. Also needs time but was very promising.

2024 Perry Colin Chardonnay Tsai Vineyard

The most accessible upon opening, although it went from strength to strength over an hour or so open. This had exotic pomelo and a hint of passion fruit on the nose, with stone fruits and crisp acidity on the palate. The finish was precise and long. While this would also benefit from time, it was probably the best of these three both now and in the future.

Disclosure: these wines were provided at no cost to the reviewer.

Thanks, Michael!

Order in for a full BD pack!

Emailed about shipping to CA, trying to get the full allocation

Thank you! In for a 6pk

Sorry, ten minutes in and there’s already a fire to put out. I placed a test order and everything, but didn’t think to check in on shipping as well.

We are getting out own license to ship DTC into CA instead of using Vinoshipper’s license. We’re still waiting on that license to arrive so it isn’t active in the Vinoshipper system yet. Can you place an order for pick up?

Order in

OK, done!

Anyone not getting their Vinoshipper confirmation?

I got a thanks for signing up for partial allocation club…not sure if that is the “confirmation”

I just realized the email came from “Perry Colin” but the email address is a Vinoshipper one, so you’re probably right.

In for a partial! (also CA based)

In for a partial allocation! Very excited to try the wines.

In for a full case - looing forward to trying the wines, thnak you!

Order in for a 6 pack!

Okay, I can’t order because of the CA shipping thing. So I selected “for pick up.”

And then when I get to the payment page and enter my CC and date, it says

Errors

  • Your postal code is incomplete.(incomplete_zip)

And there is nowhere to enter a zip code. Just spots for the CC and the expiration date. How do I enter the zip? I did put my home address under shipping but that didn’t solve it.

Thanks for any help!

Edit: by adding my CC manually instead of autofill, it allows me to scroll right off to a spot that wasn’t visible on screen that asks for my Zip Code so that worked.

I will need to contact them I guess to give them a shipping address.

So Sorry Chris! Our IT department is the absolute worst. Fortunately they happen to be pretty good at making wine. I changed the settings on the BD offers to not require a backup shipping address when selecting “I will pickup my order”.

If that doesn’t work I can file a help ticket with Vinoshipper and CC you in the email if you like.

I got it to work but will need to send you shipping info for later. Can you tell me where to send it? Thanks!
