Tempting wine purchases you’ve passed on—give others a shot

used to be a good sale to buy DRC; not anymore, although those la tache are not AWFUL with the sale.

I make an effort every time they have a sale and then quickly give up. No discount is worth having to deal with navigating this web site.

Back when they had good deals the website would crash during this sale.

I did get a bunch of DRC from there back in the day for 10-15% below WSP though. 14 and 16 La Tache right now are probably well below wsp but still quite expensive compared to 12 months ago.

Astor’s prices have gone up a lot in general lately. Even with the 20% off, don’t really find value these days.

FIFY

Astor used to be a deal relative to the market as a whole when the 20% hit, though, now, not so much.

Not technically a wine purchase, but Peter Liem’s essential Champagne book – with Map box set – is down to $40 at Amazon:

whats the usual price on this?

If you happen to find yourself at the Old Homestead Steakhouse at the Borgata, they have some DRC deals. The biggest “value” is a magnum of '09 Richebourg for $5150. I tried to buy it to go but they would not sell it to me, something about it being illegal to do so. We drank an '18 O’Shaughnessy Howell Mountain instead for $215 which paired well with our steaks and lamb chops.

Will many restaurants sell you wine off the list to take home? I’ve come across a fair amount of lists with mispriced bottles (bottles just priced with 2-3x standard markup). The bottles are still decades from their prime as well…

I know many people who have done it, but I have not myself. As a restaurant inside a casino, they are probably under the microscope and don’t want to break any rules. They will sell you a bottle to go, but they have to open it first. That magnum is 50% below market.

That makes sense. Have never tried to do it myself as well, but do see DRC’s 30-50% (especially Romanee-Continue) below market price on wine lists. I would probably rather buy from a restaurant’s cellar than an auction house also.

2013 AF gros Richebourg at saison cellar for 3400…:joy:

17 Rousseau CDLR at Lisa liquor barn for 679 I guess is a relative deal these days or Mugneret Gibourg 19 cv for a k at pogos

Nice. Just wish the CdlR price was for Mazy or Ruchottes!

Ruchottes has come and gone for <700 but I’d rather have cdlr than Mazis for Rousseau

They wouldn’t ship to me. Otherwise I would have splurged

Several decent offers on the Zachy’s sale; the 19 jadot bbm looked like it sold out quickly:

firstbottlewines 15% off w code BASTILLEDAY22

Several ok deals on sommcellars, 30% off with summer30 for the sale stuff; 16 Allemand chaillot, some others
