Co-sign the rec for white walnut estate, though only really on the chard side. The Pinots are high quality but built in a ripe fruity style. Very good chards though.
Agree with this. Thought the Pinot was solid. Chards were a different level.
Should have also mentioned Granville. A bit bigger (4k cases/year). Had a very nice time there too. Thought both red and white quite good - Koosah chard was outstanding and the highlight. A higher price point than white walnut. From a hospitality perspective it was very nice if you’re looking for something a little more refined. Still totally casual and they’ve done a great job redoing the original home on the property. Great view looking over the Valley to the mountains.
Sorry to miss you on your visit Charles. But de La Boue has impressed me, glad you’ll visit there. And hope you can still see Saul at Championship Bottle at my place.
I’m sorry to miss you too, Vincent. But I think we have a good mix of big, small, new, and old favorites. We’re planning to visit:
- J.C. Somers
- McKinlay
- Championship Bottle
- Evesham Wood
- De La Boue and
- Goodfellow
Incidentally, does anyone know anything about Little Crow Vineyards from Jessica Miller (https://www.littlecrowvine.com/)? I saw few mentions on this thread, but nothing substantive. I tried to set something up with her, but she wasn’t available. I ordered a few bottles to taste, but they won’t arrive until Spring.
I’m a huge fan of Little Crow. I’ve only had three pinots (2021 1920, 2022 Mermaid Cafe, and 2023 LBJ) and the Two Rivers Farm chardonnay from her, but I think the wines are terrific. I think most of her pinots come from Hollow Oak Acres (Chehalem Mountain) which she farms herself. Jess does all the farming and winemaking as well as most of the sales. I met her briefly at Oregon Wines on Broadway several months ago when she was dropping off some of her wines as well as some Dacha Wines pinot from Isabel Newlan (who I think is working in Burgundy currently). At the time she said she was trying to setup a Portland tasting room but I don’t know what the ETA on that is. She makes very small amounts of wine, so you likely won’t see much outside of the local area (the Two Rivers Farm chardonnay was 18 cases), but I think vom Boden does distribute a limited amount of her wines. I think her wines are worth tracking down.
She did some time in France getting deep into vines. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe she translated some epic French tome on vineyards into English. Either way, she’s drunk the Kool Aid of true belief.
Little Crow sounds promising. I’ll have to try to set something up with her on the next trip. Thanks for the help.
Ya gotta go to Perkins-Harter!
