Tonight, after our enjoyable snack this afternoon, while watching the end of Sunday’s and togay’s TdF stages (via TiVo), we had cheeses, Tomme de Savoie, Taleggio, Old Chatham Sheeps’ Milk, Drunken Goat, and Affinois Goat Brie; with orange-ginger, mango-pineapple, pear-apple-walnut, and blueberry fruit pastes Wine was a 2001 Ridge Nervo Zinfandel (5% Carignane)- good spicy, berry fruit, mostly resolved tannins, reasonable acidity, and a long berry finish. With the various fruits, it was very good with the cheeses. The best match was between the taleggio & blueberry and the Tomme & blueberry. Although the apple-pear-walnut was also good with most. This is a great way to experience the Tour de France. Meanwhile our light rainstorm has turned into a fierce thunderstorm.
i have always been a big Nervo fan. a rustic quality but proper color and taste. in a good vintage this wine can become profound if you can ever feel that way about Zinfandel.
