Tastings: Prager, Caymus, Cade, Plumpjack

Prager was delicious as usual, Cade was better than Plumpjack, surprisingly, and the Caymus was largely dissapointing, will skip the 09.

    spicy sweet berry nose. some smoke and cocoa. palate is sweet and bright. delicious and smooth.

  • 2008 Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Cuvée - USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain (10/31/2011)
    mild nose with some raspberries and spice. the palate is bright and fruity. very tannin finish.
  • 2008 Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon Estate - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (10/31/2011)
    creamy nose w coffee and some olives. the palate is restrained in its fruit. structured and thick. young tasting.

  • 2008 Plumpjack Merlot Napa Valley - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/31/2011)
    very restrained nose. bit of smoke and cocoa. bright on the attack. hollow mid palate. lots of tannin. needs to relax.

  • 2009 Plumpjack Syrah - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/31/2011)
    a little meat in the nose. some caramel and smoke. the palate is sweeter than I expected. some neat and games notes. long finish. good wine.

  • 2010 Plumpjack Chardonnay Reserve - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/31/2011)
    great citrus nose w a bit ok oak. the palate is clean and crisp but a little hollow on the finish. not bad

  • 2005 Caymus Sauvignon Blanc - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/30/2011)
    big blanc nose some sweat to it. citrus to spare. palate is sharp with acid and pineapple notes. crisp

  • 2008 Caymus Zinfandel - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/30/2011)
    huge sweet nose. ps is evident. black licorice. palate is smooth up front with creamy black berries. uber drying tannins

  • 2009 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection - USA, California, Napa Valley (10/30/2011)
    cocoa black berries cinnamon on the nose which is more restrained than the regular cab. the palate is more complete with less intense oak some savory notes cocoa and dark berries. tannins are present but not harsh.
