Tarlant Champagne

Just discovered this brand online; have not tried it. Anyone have experience/opinions about this marque? Suggestions as to where this can be purchased?

As always, many thanks all!!

I’ve been enjoying this house for years. Their Cuvée Brut Louis is outstanding. They also have a nice rosé.
Used to be very inexpensive. K and L carries it.

The prephylloxera wine is very good, but IIRC correctly, these wines have gone up a lot in price in the last few years.

I find they have a somewhat drier austere style. Good quality w/o much gout anglais.
I like their Brut Zero w/ food.

I’m a big fan of this house but they have importer/distribution issues; only 7 retailers nationwide show on winesearcher pro.

Cuvée Louis is an MV blend that is mature on release and I really like it. Generally they are a low/no dosage house so you may like them more or less on the palate depending on your preference.

Louis/Dressner is now importing the Tarlant Champagnes into the U.S. and thus I would think that they should now become more widely available. I just opened the MV Cuvee Louis Extra Brut brought in by Louis/Dressner. It was disgorged in February of this year and is half Chardonnay and half Pinot Noir from 65 year old vines from a single vineyard named Les Crayons. The base vintage is 1999 with some reserve wines from 1996, 1997 and 1998. The dosage is low @ 2 g/l as expected with an Extra Brut but it is by no means austere and is probably just entering the early stages of maturity. At 60% of the current price of the MV Krug Grand Cuvee, I look forward to seeing how this bottle evolves over the next several hours as my early impressions are very favorable.

The Vigne d’Antan is a very nice wine, but the price has gone beyond the quality.

I have also really enjoyed the Cuvee Louis. Got mine from Envoyer. I think it was $60 which is a good price given the quality IMHO.

Cheers,

Hal

Good news, indeed. Cuvée Louis is a favorite of mine.

About 20 years ago, there used to be much broader distribution. Hopefully, Loius/Dressner will restore that. As others have mentioned, the Louis is a very nice wine, and I can even handle the oak treatment that 50/50 wine gets. I’ve also visited Tarlant in Oeuilly, and had a very pleasant time tasting through the wines. It’s a very nice Champagne house.

Great info on this champagne, I’ve read a little about it before but I’ve never tasted it. The Cuvée Louis seems to be widely available but the one I’d really like to try are the vintage and NV La Vigne BdB. Has anyone tried the vintage BdB?

Great Champagne, no doubt. Used to be my go to Champagne maybe 10 years ago. The jump in prices have opted me out. I have never drank or seen a vintage Tarlant.

Benoit Tarlant was a semi regular participant on eBob, and he was the nicest guy.
