In another thread I was reminded of the old saying about Barolo
I will argue that mature Barolo or Piemonte Nebbiolo only delivers roses
And this lovely wine proves it
Fantastic nose with distinctive rose notes too
And no tar
And it tastes like it’s young and wants to party even though it’s almost same age as me
1961 Umberto Fiore Sogno di Bacco Riserva
Sounds wonderful. Old Barolo can be truly magnificent!
Lovely note. To be fair though, I find the tar element only in bigger versions of Barolo and Barbaresco, not in Alto Piemonte wines (Gattinara in this case).
I found out I was a true wine sicko almost 15 years ago, driving Highway 12 between Napa and Sonoma, stuck behind a tar crew, suddenly thinking about Barolo. There’s a fruitiness to tar that I think is sorta attractive, even on its own, and I find it to be one of the best parts of Barolo (& Etna Rosso, but that’s another discussion) - and not just the chonky versions neither. But, yeah, I’ll take all the rose I can get too.
I havi only found tar in Baroli I did not care so much for
Never tasted tar in Giacosa, Burlotto, Mascarello etc
And yes never in Alto Piemonte wine
Ok it’s not just me. Phew!
Too bad for you. Tastes are subjective. It is one of the wonderful signatures of great Barolo.
