Hello everyone, long-time member, back to posting again.
I am looking to start a greater TampaBay tasting group. Used to do an annual event as well (if this goes well may bring it back)
Now in Wesley Chapel and can host if needed. And well connected to some Tampa restaurants who will happily host us very corkage friendly.
Wines of interest to me are: Rhone Varietals especially Central Coast CA, higher end Cali cabs and blends, Italian blends and Brunello and of course Walla Wall. Just not big into Bordeaux.
Targeting mid July for our first get together, right now surveying to see if there is any interest in a group like this.
Larry,
Timely post as I have been contemplating opening up on Tampa St. Pete wine club to WB either traveling to the area or living here part/full time.
We are The Grapenuts Wine Group of Tampa with our origins back to 2011.
It is a guys group as most of our ladies enjoy wine but not
To the point of wanting to discuss it and vote on each wine for 2 hrs. We do a magnum event each year and invite the women at that time.
Many of the group are in the wine business and we like to add members who are both passionate about wine and also maintain some type of collection so they can pull older bottles to match a theme.
Usually a member picks a date and a theme. Food can be as simple as cheese and crackers or reach a five course meal. Usually cigars and cognac come out at the end of an evening. Some events are at members homes, some at restaurants.
It’s a little like a fraternity as the group decides informally If a guest fits into our club culture. No big egos no being argumentative etc.
I’m on vacay for few more days w family in Dom Republic—-very very limited wine options here so a detox week as well.
I can be reached at ardeisfka@gmail.com or 7274177830.
We are an aging group, most of guys 50+. It’s been a difficult year or more with big downturn in wine industry so some of our members lost a living or are working double time for their businesses hence the idea to open up as it’s been a struggle to get a “quorum” for some events.
We are meeting June 13th on Clearwater Beach for a tasting of SA Prumm and Dr. Thannisch. I can send you are listing of our prev events and Wone of the Nifht awards. June 13th at the moment is filled as we capped it at 8.
