Seeing as we all think stemware is important, I can’t decide if I like my syrah in a burgundy or bordeaux glass. I’m kind of curious how much it really matters anyway if you have glasses the size of the Riedel sommelier series.
Burgundy by far for me.
me too, tonight at least.
Syrah glass
Yeah there is a Syrah glass but I tend to go Bdx w/ New World & Burg w/ Old world.

Wicked Cool!
Syrah has to have its own glass. Otherwise it tastes like ass. And it doesn’t matter if it’s Syrah from Barossa, Mendoza, or the Rhone.
But really, a Burgundy glass? Heavens to murgatroid!
Depends on the syrah. For something like Jasmin Cote Rotie, Burgundy glass is the best. For most, I will use my chianti/zin glasses which are probably the best all around glasses, particularly for tasting.
Syrah wants chimney glasses, i.e. glasses that are vertically oriented. Chianti in a punch. Bordeaux is OK. Syrah for preference. Burg only for old wines.
Perhaps I should have stated that these are my two and only two choices.
Then, if i was doing something under 15 years old, Bordeaux.
Is that one of those Zalto glasses? If not what brand?
Sure is a Zalto!
Bordeaux. To me the more open Burg stem emphasizes the elevated alcohol in both Syrah and CDP. I too also prefer the true Syrah or Chianti stem to a Bordeaux one as well, because the narrower nose deemphasizes the alcohol.
Syrah glass for me.
Between those two glasses, I’d go for a Bdx. glass, unless the wine has significant age on it, and, even then, I might still go with the Bdx. over the Burg…
+1. Exactly. SQN Atlantis last night in medium standard stems was perfect. I avoided the bigger, wider-based burg glasses like the plague.
I really love those syrah glasses for this. I know it sounds a little particular coming from someone who drinks champagne in white wine or bordeaux glasses more often than champagne glasses but the wine really needs the elevated design rather than the big bowl. Like Eric and Brady, I think the big bowl accentuates the alcohol a little. If I was out and about however I wouldn’t complain about any kind of glass with syrah.
Then bordeaux.
bordeaux
Chave Hermitage Rouge in burgundy stems, all else in Bordeaux stems.
this applies to french syrah. american syrah should be served in a rocks glass. on the rocks!
