Well, I’m bumping this at my own risk.
I shared a wonderful bottle of 2023 Marsannay with my wife back on 7/15/26, and I kept thinking about this thread, lol.
I can’t speak to bottle variation, and I certainly won’t deny how little luck some of you have had with the 2022 Bourgogne and Marsannay. What I am willing to state is that I think the Bourgogne is treated much less carefully than every bottling above it, and that even the Marsannay has had varying degrees of purchased fruit from some of his family’s old sources. Regardless, this 2023 very much lived up to JM’s tasting note, and both my wife and I were very, very satisfied with it. I purchased x2 for $42/per; and at this quality I would pay it over and over again. It’s a certain style, sure, but it was bright, vibrant, with plenty of great acidity tucked under the fruit and fine tannin layer.
Without further ado:
7/15/26 - Sylvain Pataille Marsannay 2023
Obviously whole cluster, full nose, nice purple fruit aromas like blackberry bramble. Somehow all meshed into a fairly clean, med +++ acidity. Plenty of complex aromas tied into a tannin structure that isn’t developed yet. This will clearly shift and transform a ton in the glass and with bottle age, but it also probably has a nice, broad drinking window. I have a very hard time imagining this shutting down all that much, and I’m quite pleased with this!
