Well…bought a case with a couple of bottles that had leaked at some point in time (not much because the fill was good) so I figured, lets pop the worse looking one and see what happens…
1991 Serafin Gevrey Cazetieres -
Now, this is why it’s worth buying Burgundies such as this, at good prices, put them in the cellar and let them sleep for a while. The wine is absolutely glorious! Nice color with a hint of brick, nose of rose petals and that subtle, intriguing aroma of maturing Pinot. Sweet fruit, harmonious, the right amount of acidity to keep it in balance and a long savory finish. Textbook Burgundy and one that put a big smile on my face. I was going to sell some but now…that’s off the table!
Yeah but you know nothing about wine because youve never had sex in a dusty Jumilla vineyard with a three legged donkey while making white rose in a concrete soda bottle. Amateur! Oh and you dont have a sexy Spanish accent!
Great note Max. Some day Ill try a Burgundy
Nice to hear such a good report from Christian’s 91 Cazetiers. I recently had a 91 Le Fonteny that exhibited a beautiful array of fruit, blackberry, and cherry. The usual dominating oak had been nicely integrated. These higher level 91s continue to amaze me. No surprise … no surprise.
I don’t know why anyone would be ‘surprised’ about a 91 drinking well - for at least 3 or 4 years I’ve found it to be consistently the most interesting of ‘young’ vintages for drinking now. As for Serafin being under the radar, is that why their prices are 50% higher than the average? ;o)
