Sunday with Scherrer ST & LCF J+M

Man two winners here.

1999 Scherrer Shale Terrace is in a near-perfect place now. Pure claret style and just enough Zinfullness to identify the wine and really help sink your teeth into this feminine beauty. Tannins balanced, not gone yet and just elegant. Had this upright the past few weeks, maybe that helped this bottle shine even brighter than expected. Medium-medium-medium beauty.

2012 La Clarine Farms Josephine + Mariposa is mostly Grenache Noir and then Mourvedre. Bright, delicious, light-on-its-feet but still with tannins and oomph. Had this with grilled pork chops from our grass-fed purveyor, wine just shined. You can think of this as a gateway drug to Cru Bojo for a new-world drinker.

Scherrer Zins do age very well. I wish I was that patient.

I never aged a Shale Terrace that long, but I opened a 1995 OMV about 1 1/2 years ago and I thought it aged beautifully, but it was time to drink up.

I admire your patience on thevScherrer. My first was 2003 which I drank, according to CT, IN 2009. It was really good … I gave it 92 points.
